OUR CHEESES

Il Villaggio Mozzarella is beloved by Italians and Americans alike for its fresh and delightfully milky flavor. Made in upstate New York from Amish cow’s milk and crafted individually in small batches in order to deliver exceptionally fresh mozzarella.

Legend has it that Mozzarella was first made when cheese curds accidentally fell into a pail of hot water in a cheese factory near Naples and soon thereafter the first pizza was made in Naples. It has also been argued that the name "mozzarella," which is derived from Southern Italian dialects, was a form of “mozza” (cut) and "scamozzata" (without a shirt). This alludes to the fact that mozzarella has no hard surface.

Il Villaggio Mozzarella has a wonderful elasticity when heated that makes it so popular. It has an adaptable taste because it is so low in salt. Il Villaggio Mozzarella can either be natural, hickory smoked, marinated in olive oil with fresh herbs or rolled with Prosciutto for a real treat.

Milky, delicate and scrumptious.

The culinary opportunities are endless. Il Villaggio Mozzarella adds texture and absorbs the flavors of other ingredients. Apart from enjoying it fresh, it is the perfect ingredient for pizza, pasta and vegetables. As an appetizer, serve it with fresh tomatoes, basil and a touch of olive oil. Classic Italian dishes like chicken parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana and calzones require mozzarella.
