With cheese, the obvious, go-to alcoholic beverage is wine. So much so that you probably never thought you could have something else. Cocktails, however, make a great accompaniment to cheese. Cocktails allow you to really embrace and complement the flavors of the cheese you are indulging in. Here are 3 of our favorite cocktail and cheese pairings:
Mozzarella and Basil Bloody Mary
Emulate the flavors of caprese with these twist on a classic bloody mary.
Ingredients:
bloody mary mix
2 oz vodka
1/2 tsp tabasco
1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce
dash of lemon juice
basil leaves
pepper to taste
Directions
Take a tall glass and muddle the basil leaves on the bottom of the glass. Then fill glass with ice and pour in bloody mary mix to fill half. Mix in the remaining ingredients and stir. Bloody mary’s are very much customizable so feel free to add in more of certain ingredients based on your liking.
Gorgonzola and Manhattan
The richy, woody flavor of the Manhattan compliments the rich, salty flavor of the blue cheese.
Ingredients:
2 dashes bitters
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 1/2 ounces bourbon
1 maraschino cherry
Directions:
Fill a short glass 2/3 full with ice. Add bitters, vermouth, and bourbon. Add cherry and smash against the side of the glass. Stir to combine.
Provolone and Limoncello Raspberry Prosecco
The tart yet sweet lemon and raspberry flavors compliment the sharp and spicy flavor of Provolone.
Ingredients:
1 bottle of Prosecco
4 oz Limoncello (1 oz per serving)
Fresh raspberries
Directions:
Muddle about 6 raspberries at the bottom of a short cocktail glass. Then add in ice, Limoncello and Prosecco.
